Wearin' o' the Green and The Plaid

March is well known for St. Patrick's Day but it is known for Scottish Heritage month in Darien as well. On March 12, 2011 Darien's Waterfront Merchants and the Garrison from Fort King George will be hosting a "ceilidh" (Gaelic for "party"). The ceilidh will take place between 6PM and 10PM on Broad Street in downtown Darien. Uncle Hamish and the Hooligans will entertain you with Celtic rock fusion. This is sure to be lots of fun. Included in your $10.00 admission/donation will be a beer tasting. Local food vendors will provide food and additional refreshment. Kilts are optional.

Now if you're looking for something a bit earlier in the day Ashantilly is presenting their annual Scotch Whisky Tasting from 3PM-4:30PM. (Just a few spots left, call now for reservations 912 437-4307) Take a tour of Scotland through six single malts with guest speaker Shiloh Humes.

Late February

Warmer mornings begin with fog blanketing the marsh. Last year's marsh grass is making way for new green shoots. Every cedar branch drips and every blade of grass glistens with beads of dew. Spring has arrived on the Georgia coast. Turtles and alligators are climbing to there favorite sunning spots in the ponds to absorb the warmth of the spring sun. It's not unusual to see turtles and small gators positioned nose to tail as they enjoy the sun. One of the best places to observe these critters in these laughable positions is Harris Neck National Wildlife Refuge.

What to See and Do in March in Darien, GA

Spring has arrived on the Georgia coast. Spring bulbs are blooming, trees are leafing and budding behind veils of Spanish Moss. Birds are decked out in mating plumage and sending out a cacophony of song. This is a great time to visit Harris Neck National Wildlife Refuge.
